coromandel
Two weekends ago I went on a trip with my friends Abby, Shereen, and Daniel to the Corrmandel Peninsula. This time I didn't have to bike the whole way! The first day we went to Cathedral cove. This was unbelievably stunning. If you have seen Narnia, Cathedral cove is where they shott the beach scene. It really did feel like a magical place. We spent the night in Whangarei in a little backpackers. We had dinner and a few drinks at the local bar. That was quite an expiereince, and people watching entertained us for many hours. On our way home we passed a feijoa bush. Feijoas are a New Zealand fruit that are small green ovals which have the skin of a lime, the consistency of an overripe pear, and the taste of like nothing i have ever had befor. We filled our bags with the fallen fruit, and had a light night snack of fresh feijoas. Mmmmm. The next day we had delicous brunch, and played on the local playground. Later we went to Hot Water Beach. At this beach there is thermal activity underneath the shore line. So in certian spots along the beach you can dig a whole in the sand and make your own hot tub! It is a unique expierience to enw zealand. There are many locals and tourists who hang out all day at hot water beach. We brought a lunch of smoked fish (tuna, mackeral, and snapper), lemonade, feijoas from last night, bread, and many other snacks. We munched and soaked all day long. The most exciting part of the day was when these locals showed us how to collect mussels off the rocks and cook them in the hot water! Those were the best mussels I have ever had in my whole life! It was a relaxing, beautifal, and unique weekend. I will be adding pictures once I get them from my friends!
